“Muktzeh, a splendid piece, approximately one hour long, where, through several paintings, it spins its request to put aside those things that are left over, what is really over, with the aim of building a citizenship more egalitarian and smarter…
… So that need to make a joint effort, to face the fact of change with a wider room for maneuver, is captivating in itself; so much so that the fact that ideas with its own light, the things Dana does, similar to an oil lamp, generate transference, must be done well.”
Yolanda Vázquez, La Escena
SYNOPSIS
“Muktzeh” is a Hebrew term that translates as “separated” and refers to those items that are subject to restrictions on the holy days of the Jewish religion. Under this title, Dana Raz presents a contemporary dance work that originates from Jewish tradition but connects with the cross-sectional aspects of other major monotheistic religions, to focus on what, in her opinion, has been exploited by humans for their own interest, serving as justification for violations of rights, inequality, indifference, or chauvinism. This religious universe is brought to a stage where the spotlight is on the light and the dancers (and the enormous physical demands placed upon them). The result is a vibrant atmosphere, which leaves us with images of great plasticity, wrapped in an aesthetic at times as suffocating as it is beautiful.
